'Okadaman' in prison for robing, raping female passenger

 

Michael Ugwu, a 23-year-old commercial motorcyclist popularly called 'Okadaman', has been remanded in prison by an Abuja Grade 1 Area Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory, for allegedly raping a a female passenger, Chikaodiri Obeni, at Kubwa, a satellite town in the city.


Ugwu who resides at the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) in Kubwa, according to the police prosecutor, Kaura Arziki, had lured Obeni, who sells 'Okpa', a local delicacy in Dutsen Alhaji, Bwari Area Council, on the pretext that some construction workers wanted to buy from her.

While conveying her to the 'site', Uwgu allegedly diverted into a bush where he forcefully raped her and in tghe process, inflicting injuries on her neck. After defiling the woman, Ugwu stole her phone and the sum of N1,500 before escaping from the scene.

The lady made a report at the Dutsen Alhaji Police Station and Ugwu was arrested a few days later.

Arziki said that during interrogation, the suspect  denied the allegation of rape, but confessed to have assaulted her and stole her handset and the sum of N1,500.

When the charges of criminal assault, causing hurt, rape and theft, were read to him, Uwgu pleaded not guilty, but the judge, Mohammed Marafa remanded him in prison custody till September 14 when the case will be heard.
